Just a fishin’

Last weekend Aaron went to the lake with his buddies for a fishing trip. The weekend before that he wanted to get the boat out to make sure it was running alright.  Now, if you remember, we bought the boat merely 3 months before Jenna was born. I went out once as a hugely pregnant lady, but haven’t been again since Jenna was born. I love to be out on the water, so I suggested that he bring Jenna and I with him on his test run.  I’m not so sure he wanted to, but he knew how badly I wanted to get on the water, so he obliged.

In preparation for the trip, I’d put Jenna’s life jacket on for a while in the evening. I’d tell her it was her boat coat and she thought that was funny, so she was happy wearing it. I like to think that the pink and princesses helped, too. :)

On the big day we took longer getting ready than was desired, but what can you do when a toddler is involved and it is the first time in the season for getting a boat out. Both scenarios just spell S.L.O.W. We finally got loaded and hit the road around lunch time.

I tried to get some pictures as we were loading the boat, but Jenna wasn’t very happy

She wanted Dad.

Much better.

We hit the water and found a fishing spot. I tried to put sunglasses on her, but she didn’t want them…until the boat started moving. She decided it wasn’t so bad to wear the glasses if it helped keep the wind off her face.

While Aaron fished I relaxed hovered over Jenna like a hawk making sure she didn’t find any stray hooks, didn’t try to reach into the water, didn’t step on fishing poles. Actually it was much easier than I expected. She was happy sitting in the driver’s seat and pretending to drive the boat. Seriously, she sat there for nearly 2 hours. A couple times she wanted a snack or drink, but that was easily taken care of. She did get up a couple times to check out fish when Aaron caught them.

Yes, she touched it. No, she did not kiss it. :)

All in all, it was a very fun time. Since our trip, if she sees the boat in the garage, she gets excited and starts saying ‘boat? boat'? boat?’ as if she’s ready to roll!

Petting Zoo

My neighbor Jessica and I took the kids to the Deanna Rose Homestead petting zoo this afternoon. For those of you that don’t know, our neighbors have a son who is 6 months younger than Jenna.

The weather was great and although there were a lot of students on fields trips, we still had a fun time and the kids got to pet a few animals.

Here’s my favorite picture of the kids – they were checking out the chickens.

So glad someone has figured out how to open doors...

Just in time for attic fan season, Jenna is now a master at opening doors. Have I mentioned that she LOVES to go outside? Luckily we only have one storm door that has a handle within reach and she's only been able to unlock it on a fluke. Of course it won't be long at all before she's able to open it...trouble!

Somebody's Ready For Summer

Last night when I was giving Jenna a bath, she kept putting her face in the water. I think she's ready to swim! She swallowed a little water a couple times, so I told her to blow bubbles when she was underwater. She did really good, although once forgot to lift her head before taking a breath. All was good though, silly girl laughed in the middle of her sputters!

The Easter Bunny has already stopped by Jenna's

But she doesn't know it yet (and hopefully won't know it until after 9!). We had a fun filled night celebrating our friends Garrett and Megan's wedding. Jenna had a lot of fun early in the evening chasing around the big kids outside and then later in the evening dancing and dancing and dancing. She was so cute. Sometimes she was even out there dancing by herself, but she didn't mind as long as there was a beat to bounce to.

I hope everyone has a nice Easter day tomorrow. It will be fun for us this year since Jenna's able to get around and look for eggs. Plus she will get to play with some of her older cousins - she's been missing Faith since her visit over Spring Break.

Uncle Brad's Home!

Who knew I'd ever be so excited to see my pesky little brother, but a year apart will do that to you!

Brad made it home yesterday. I had to work, but Jenna went to the airport with Mom and Dad to pick him up. Jenna has Skyped with Uncle Brad for months and months, but hasn't seen him since she was less than 3 months old.

Welcome home Uncle Brad!!!! We've missed you!!!

15 month check-up

Jenna and I just left the doctor's office for her 15 month appointment. She did really well and charmed the doctor. When he came in he informed me that 15 month olds usually get really upset at their appointments. She did get a little scared and clung to me (and honestly, I didn't mind). But he said she did really well comparatively, so I was glad to hear that. When he opened the door to leave she waved and said bye-bye and blew him a kiss. You'd think it would happen all the time, but I guess not because he went on and on about it and went to grab his nurse out of another office to get Jenna to blow her a kiss. Of course Jenna ate up the attention. :)

The details: she weighs 28lb 4oz and is 33.5". I forgot to see what her head circumference is. Her weight and height track well and off the chart. Dr Grossman asked if her dad is tall, so I guess he thinks she might be tall. She has a pretty strong short gene to overcome though! Doctor said to expect that she will start dropping on the chart at her 18 month appointment or maybe a little later.

She had to get 3 shots and screamed through them all, but when the nurse left she blew her a kiss through the screams, so I wasn't too worried. She was happy within a minute or two. We scheduled another appointment for late May and just got a special treat for doing so well. It is a Tinkerbell wand. She has been waving it all around in the backseat.
