Vacation!

I didn't think we'd take a vacation this year, especially since last year we took the trip of a lifetime to Australia, but Aaron has a training session in New York next month and we decided to turn it into a short vacation. He'll be in his training session on Monday (8/18) through Thursday and I'm going to fly out and meet him Thursday evening and we'll stay through the next Tuesday. I think we'll spend a couple nights in the city and then get a car and take a road trip somewhere, maybe to Cape Cod for a day or two. The itenerary is still up in the air. It will be interesting being there in August and being 28 weeks pregnant, but my doctor said that I could go and it shouldn't be a problem as long as I pay attention to my body and stay hydrated. I think I can manage both, plus I'm sure Aaron will be keeping a close watch.

Aaron's flight is booked through work and I got my flight booked today, so now we're just looking for a hotel room. It is daunting, so if anyone has a suggestion, let me know.

24 Week Check-Up

Today we had our 24 week appointment. It went really well. My blood pressure was just right and I'm measuring at just a bit past 24 weeks (I will be 24 weeks on Thursday). This last week I have had a bit of a growth spurt and since our last appointment on July 1st I've gained 7 or 8 lbs! Yikes! The doctor said that I'm still on track and that I don't need to worry about the excessive gain over the last month as long as I haven't suddenly changed my diet (which I haven't). So, I'll trust him. I just hope that I don't keep gaining at that rate!!

I didn't ask what her heartrate was when he listened to it, but he said that it sounds great. She was moving a bunch when he was listening and each time she moved you could hear it on the doppler -- he said she is a fiesty one. I thought that was funny (and probably right!).

Our next appointment is on August 27th. I have to do a glucose test to test for gestational diabetes at that appointment. So, I'll have to fast after midnight the night before and then an hour before my appointment I'll have to drink this special drink they provided and then I'll get bloodwork done as soon as I get in and they'll run the labs and have the results for my appointment 15 minutes later.

Fiasco!

Last night Aaron and I decided to start putting together the baby's dresser. It is a dresser/hutch and came in two boxes. We decided it made the most sense to put together the dresser first, so we grabbed the box that had a sticker on it that said dresser. He pulled out the instructions and handed them to me (yes, we don't learn that it works better for just one of us to put something together, so we were going to work together again). The instructions were for the hutch! We looked at the boxes and they were exactly the same, except one had a green sticker on it marked as dresser and the other as hutch. Just in case we were wrong, we opened the other box -- same thing! Grrr! So, we called Nebraska Furniture Mart and they are going to deliver the right piece next Tuesday.

It is Hot Out!

This weekend was a really nice one, albeit REALLY HOT. We went to visit Mammaw (my great grandma) in Crane, MO, which is not far from Branson. We hadn't seen her for a while, so it was nice to chat. We also went to the Black family reunion (my mom's side) in a town about 30 minutes from Crane. We don't get together very often and I hadn't seen a lot of people who were there for at least 10 years, most of them it had been 19 years! We managed to do both things on Saturday, including the drive there and back! It made for a really long day, but it was worth it and we couldn't make it any other way.

On Friday, Aaron and I had a chiropractor appointment and his office is on the other side of town, so we took the opportunity to stop by Babies 'R Us, which is a bit out of our way otherwise. And we got registered! We're still finetuning the regsitry, so some things may be coming and going over the next few weeks. It was a lot fun to do together and pretty much we agreed on everything we picked out. They have a very well organized registry, so when we left we got a printout of all of the things they thought we overlooked. We're going to try to go over it this week and get everything updated. We can do everything online, so it is very convenient.

On Sunday Kim and I went to our friend Lindsay's bridal shower. She's marrying a guy I went to high school with and I know a lot of his family. I hadn't seen most of them since I graduated high school. After the shower Kim let me go through all of the clothes that Jocelyn has outgrown (she just turned 4 months, so it was newborn, and 0-3 month sizes). We got so much great stuff! There was plenty of, well, I'm not sure how to say this politely, so I'll just say it -- ugly stuff in there! They were hand-me-downs that Kim got and she was in agreement with me. So we made an ugly pile and it is going to Goodwill. I did keep a lot of things I thought were ugly, too, but they seemed practical (sleepers, etc). Don't worry though, for every ugly outfit there were at least 5 super cute ones! I ended up with 2 medium sized boxes and one huge ziplock bag full of clothes! She also is letting me borrow a glider, a high chair and a boppy. She also had 1.5 packages of diapers that were too small and three 2 oz bottles of formula that they got at the hospital. So, I made out really well! It is so nice of her and Jason to let us use so much of their stuff.
