First off let me say, I am fine and the baby is fine. Now that that's out of the way, let me tell you about my day yesterday -- it was a bad one!
It started off with me taking one of my vitamins. They are in a blister pack and when I went to pop it out, my thumb hit just right so that the plastic bent and formed a perfect little knife and sliced my thumb right where your nail meets your thumb. It bled a bunch, but didn't hurt too bad. Of course it is on my left hand and I'm a lefty, so every time I press something with my thumb, it hurts. That was the best part of my day...
I planned to get to work about 30 minutes early, but one of the stop lights on the highway were out (reinforcing my question about why there are stop lights on a highway, but that's another story). There had been an accident in the intersection and there were cops directing traffic. It was a mess and there were about 8 cops directing and they weren't completely in sync. I saw twice when they started to direct two opposing lanes of traffic at the same time. That added about 15 minutes to my drive, and my computer froze up when I got in to work and I had to restart it, so when it was all said and done, I didn't stark working until about 5 after 8.
About the time I got to work I realized I forgot my lunch. I had been so excited for it, too (left over Chipotle Bol).
Now, here's the really bad part of my day. Lunch. I went to Target to do a little shopping and since I didn't have a lunch, I decided to run to Burger King to pick up something on my way back to the office. The BK I went to is in the same area as a mall. There is a "mall road" that runs between the BK and the mall parking lot. Usually there isn't much traffic. When I was heading out of the parking lot, I could see traffic backed up all the way around the mall and then I looked behind BK to where the road I wanted to get to was and it was backed up, too. I decided to go out the opposite direction and get back to work a different route. That meant I needed to turn left out of BK. There were two lanes of traffic to cross. The first was completely backed up, but the 2nd wasn't. Because of all the cars on the lane closest to me, I couldn't see oncoming cars in the other lane. I was waiting to get an opportunity to leave and a lady waved me out. I pulled through her lane and was inching out into the other lane (remember I couldn't see the traffic coming in that lane). WHAM! I had inched out too far and got smacked. Since traffic was backed up already, I waved to the other car and put it in reverse and pulled back into BK. The other driver was fine, but anxious to get home (she had just left her 8 week old baby for the first time ever to go to a quick doctor visit). We decided we needed to file a report, so called the police. Well, traffic had been backed up because of a fatality wreck on another road and there had been another serious accident because of it, so we were (rightly so) at the bottom of the barrel (even though the Olathe police station was literaly less than 1 mile away). It took over an hour and 3 calls to the police station for an officer to show up. They finally came and took our info. The only damage to her car was to the front license plate. She had just moved to KS from MO and hadn't changed her tags, so they were trash anyhow. My car wasn't quite so lucky. Her license plate punctured my front bumper, which in turn hit my battery. Not really sure why the battery sits right behind the front bumper, another reason to not buy a Chrysler Sebring if anyone is considering it. The battery spilled acid all over, but we didn't know it. We saw a small area of what we thought was water (it has rained a lot here lately and there were lots of puddles on the road). Only later when my car wouldn't start did we realize it was battery acid. Apparently I'm lucky it didn't catch fire according to a few people I've told about it. Since the accident was at such a low speed I felt fine, but the longer we sat there waiting for the police the more I started to worry about the baby. For some reason, I did not have the OB's phone # in my cell, so while the police were writing the report I called Aaron to tell him about the accident and to get the number of the OB from a pamphlet at home. I started bawling as soon as I heard his voice - poor guy. I told him that I was sure everything was fine, but that I couldn't stop thinking about the baby. He told his boss he had to leave and immediately got on the road. I think he made it there in record time. By the time he got there, the cops had left (I was listed as the at fault party, but they didn't give a ticket because of the circumstances due to the other accidents). Since the other girl's car wasn't damaged I gave her my insurance info and phone number, but she said she wasn't going to file a claim. Aaron looked at my car while I called the OB. I talked to a nurse and she said she was going to talk to the doctor and call me right back. 15 minutes later I hadn't heard anything, so we started driving to the office. I called again once we got there (about 30 min later) and they said to come in and we'd listen for the heart beat. Everything was fine and we could hear it kicking through the Doppler, so that made me feel even better. On the way back we picked up a new battery and called Aaron's cousin Chris to see if we could borrow some tools (his house was closest). So, he came by and he and Aaron changed out the battery. Now the car runs fine, the front bumper just has a little hole in it. I don't think we'll get it fixed, my car has been going down hill lately as it is and we're just driving it until we have a really good reason not to and this wasn't really a good enough reason. So, all-in-all everything ended up fine, but it was a really bad day. :)
